16 Companies to Bid for 3 DTH Licenses on November 23rd

According to official statement, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is finally going to start the open bidding for Direct to Home (DTH) license auction on November 23, 2016.

Recently, the company has received seven new applications from the interested parties after which the total number of the DTH participants has increased to 16. According to PEMRA, it will auction 3 licenses for DTH distribution services after getting enough eligible applicants.

The scrutiny process of applications for DTH licenses has already been started by DTH Committee of PEMRA. The names of seven new companies applied for DTH auction are listed below.

  1.  Orient Electronics
  2. Mag Entertainment
  3. Skyfkix
  4. Start Times Communications Pakistan
  5. Vision Broadcast
  6. Link Dot Net Pakistan
  7. World Call Telecom

Prior to that, there were 8 companies shortlisted by PEMRA for bidding of DTH Licensing which include:

  1. Sardar Builders (Pvt.) Limited.
  2. Parus Media & Broadcast (Pvt.) Limited.
  3. Mastro Media Distribution (Pvt.) Limited.
  4. HB DTH (Pvt.) Limited.
  5. IQ Communications (Pvt.) Limited.
  6. Nayatel (Pvt.) Limited.
  7. Shahzad CGG (Pvt.) Limited.
  8. Sharif Feed Mills (Pvt.) Limited.

But then the plea of PTCL’s subsidiary ‘Smart Sky’ was also accepted by Islamabad High Court and it participated in the bidding after which the numbers increased to 9.

The second phase of scrutiny of new applications will soon be completed by PEMRA. The authority previously planned to auction these DTH licenses last year but the new chairman stopped the whole process just before 1 week of the auction.
