5 Years Jail or Rs. 5 Million for Blackmailing a Girl Karachi

In Pakistan, another case has been registered under cyber crime law. The first arrest for blackmailing happened in Nowshera but now this time it was done in Karachi since the implementation of cyber crime law. The latest case was the first of its kind in Sindh and it was registered by FIA Karachi.

Case details

A man named Asim from Shah Faisal Colony was arrested by the agency as he was blackmailing the family of a girl for ransom after uploading her pictures online.

The case was registered by victim’s father Abdul Zahoor who said that the accused befriended his daughter on social media site Facebook.

He told that his daughter didn’t want to remain in contact with him but he demanded Rs. 10,000 from her and threatened to upload her pictures in case of not giving him the said money. The family responded negatively over his demand after which he uploaded her photos on Facebook after which the victim’s father field the case.

FIA arrested Asim with the help from Abdul Zahoor after calling him to a shopping mall. After investigation, FIA found that the girl herself gave her Facebook profile rights to Asim. If proven guilty, Asim will be given 5 year imprisonment or Rs. 5 million fine or both punishments together.

Effective but Incomplete

This case proves that cases of cyber blackmailing and bullying are handled with the newly introduced Cyber Crime Law. In just 2 months, several cases have been registered in Pakistan. But there is a possibility of negative use of this law by accusing falsely to someone. Law enforcement agencies have to play important role to use this act rightly and with justice.
