Alibaba Exploring to start E-Commerce in Pakistan

The Minister of State for IT chaired the multi stakeholder meeting with the president of Alibaba Group, Mr. Michael Evans and they laid out the necessary initiatives and the policy measures, which are being undertaken by the federal government to make them able for broad based digital ecosystem across the country.

They have focused to get the full value chain digitization of economy to get the immense dividends and the situation is ready to exploit the potential of digital infrastructure and enable the e-commerce and digital payments to business to business and retail markets. Alibaba is the Chinese e-commerce big company and it has biggest market shares in the world in consumer to consumer, business to consumer and business to business sales services, which are provided through E-commerce web portals. There is the high level delegation of Alibaba Group and this group has conducted the two day visit to Pakistan in order to discuss and explore investment opportunities in E-commerce space in the country. MoIT, Karandaz and NADRA have delivered the detailed presentations on different segments.

The president of Alibaba Group said that the Ministry of IT has shown its impressive and wonderful commitment, focus and dedication to all digital development initiatives. He said that one group is aggressively pursuing the diligence process to set up their e-commerce and digital payments services in Pakistan and tap in to this high potential market. The president of Alibaba Group showed his confidence in ICT policy and infrastructure for E-commerce market and Digital payments in Pakistan.

The Minister of State for IT appreciated the efforts of Alibaba Group to carry on their engagement and the diligence to set up their e-commerce presence across the country. There were some other attendants in the meeting, who are Secretary (IT & Telecom), Additional Secretary (Finance), Joint Secretary (Implementation, PM Office), Chairman PTA, Member (IT), Member (Legal), CEO Mobilink, Member (Telecom), CEO Karandaz, Member (HRD) of MoIT&T and heads of mobile companies, State Bank of Pakistan, representative of Ministry of Commerce and other senior officers of public and private sector departments.
