Apple Phone iOS sales out in Latin America

According to report for Q3 2013 by IDC’s Mobile Tracker, Windows Phone shipments have surpassed those of Apple iphone family in Latin America. In the region, Microsoft continues its great performance and over an entire continent, this is the first case where its platform has climbed to second place.

IDC’s report shows that year-on-year growth for the OS stands at the impressive 156% and Windows Phone has achieved a quarterly growth of 20% for each of the last three quarters.
Windows Phone is in fact the second most popular mobile OS in Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru and the region. The quartet-over-quarter growth is the highest around in Chile alone, which is 50%.

Regional Manager for Mobile Phones at IDC Latin America, Oliver Flores says that in Latin America market, delivering smartphones with full features in low cost devices has been a major success of Windows Phone. For the users that have just begun their journey in the smartphone world, low range devices like Nokia Lumia 520, offer a complete experience.

According to Gartner, Windows Phone takes 3.6% of the market for Q3 2013 with nearly 9 million smartphones running the OS shipped on a global scale. Compared to the same quarter in 2012 when the OS held a market share of 2.3% with 3.9 million units shipped, that’s a significant jump.
