The Ministry of Information Technology has taken another step for the issuance of Web user Advisory for the users of WhatsApp to video calling invite scam. The concerned department received various malicious messages pertaining to the invitations to activate the features of video calling on popular messaging app. The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication issued the Web user Advisory and it is provided to the general public about the scam and it will expose the personal and call data of users to the malicious elements.

The scammers prepared this method according to which they invited the users of WhatsApp and activate the features through the spoofed website and this matter has been discussed on the local and international media over last many years. When the users click on this web link to get the invite to user, which led them to the legal looking process but it was the spoofed website, which carries out the malicious code. Then they invite more friends which lead to further spread of the hack.

It is necessary to mentioned that WhatsApp introduced the feature of video calling recently and this feature can be activated by the upgrading of App to the latest version and they can carry out it through invites or their referrals. When they are activated with the use of spoofed invite link then it removes the vulnerability to reset the application through these settings, or they can install the application after completing their uninstall process.

WhatsApp got the popularity with the messaging users and it becomes important that the users of Pakistan can become aware of this scam and they can take action and adopt the immediate measures to limit their exposure to the data protection consequences. The global hacking forums have reported this scam widely and the gravity of this malicious activity and its consequences are yet to be known completely as the security experts of web and data advised the users to avoid the massive exposure on WhatsApp and do not let them spread unintentionally.
