Huawei Officially Launches Second Foldable Phone

The Chinese phone maker Huawie has already launched its first foldable phone dubbed Huawei Mate X back in 2019. Now keeping the que continue after a break of two years, the company has launched the second foldable phone named Huawei Mate X2. The new foldable phone is quite similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold in terms of design and look. The phone is going to be a successor of previously launched Mate X. The foldable comes with an inward folding form factor. Currently, Huawei is following the Samsung’s approach and featured an external screen that will be usable even when the phone is kept folded.

Design and Display

The display size of the Huawei Mate X2 is an 8-inch OLED with an 8:7.1 aspect ratio, 2480 x 2200 resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, and support for DCI-P3 color gamut. The external display, on the other hand, is a 6.45-inch OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio, 90 Hz refresh rate, and a 240 Hz touch sampling rate.

The Huawei Mate X2 comes in a wedge design. It has thickness at the point where camera setup lies and becomes 4.4 mm thin while going towards on the other corner. The thicker corner is just due to periscope camera. The phone gives a look of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold when it is folded. It has rectangular camera housing with a matte finish.

According to Huawei, an advanced hinge design made with Zirconium-based liquid metal and carbon fiber panels is used in the phone and like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 it can be easily folded.

Internals and Storage

Huawei Mate X2 is equipped with Kirin 9000 5nm chipset. The chipset has four Cortex-A77 cores (one of which runs at 3.13 GHz) and four A55, plus a Mali-G78 MP24 GPU. As far as the storage of the Mate X2 is concerned, it is topped by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. The phone goes on EMUI 11.0 based on Android 10 on software front.

Cameras

Hauwei Mate X2 is equipped with a quad-sensor camera setup at rear which is developed with the cooperation of Leica. The main sensor is a 50 MP module with an f/1.9 aperture and support for OIS and 4K video recording. The primary lens is topped with an 8 MP periscope lens that offers 20x hybrid zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, a 12 MP telephoto sensor, and a 16 MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro sensor. On the front side the Huawei Mate X2 is powered by 16MP pill shaped secondary camera for selfies.

Battery and Pricing

Huawei has powered the foldable phone, Mate X2 with a 4,500mAh battery which is featured with a 55W Super Fast Charging.

The Huawei Mate X2 will break cover on the 25th February 2021 officially on the price tag of $2,780/€2,300.
