Recently, a strong fog has occupied the space of Lahore that forced the people to stay inside by affecting the visibility.

But it should be remembered that it is man-made smog instead of fog which is created by pollution and other environmental factors created by man. Smog is very dangerous as it can cause sudden loss of breath and other problems. Smog can also cause irritation in eyes and nose.

How Does a Smog Happen?

Smog appears in Lahore in December over the past few years while even airline flights to Lahore also have to be cancelled due to thick smog.

But the situation has got worse in the last 5 years due to high amount of traffic and factories and poor air quality. Rapid industrialization and cutting of trees are the important causes for this situation.

Lahore is now considered as one of the most polluted cities in Asia. Due to rains, cold spells and dry weather in winters, pollutants gather in the lower level of atmosphere in these months.

Experts say that factories present in Eastern Punjab of India are also responsible for this factor as they use coal. Pollutants from this area enter Pakistan and make the situation worse.
