Nokia stops Support of Symbian and Meego

For the Symbian – once the most popular and most widely used mobile OS – the day has come to get buried.
With the closure of their app stores, Nokia has officially put a stop to Symbian and Meego. Though, obviously they haven’t been removed altogether and scraped.
While back, the step comes after it announced that on 1st January 2014, all Meego and Symbian services will be ceased.
The developers will be able to reap in profits while the users will be able to install apps for an indefinite amount of time. However, as sales of the OS have continued to fall with the last phone running on the OS getting released in early 2012, these profits won’t be a lot. To their apps, developers also won’t be able to release updates.
Nokia is reiterating its faith on its own Asha range and MS Windows Phone, with this move. Things aren’t exactly going nowhere and there certainly is interest, while it hasn’t been benefiting endlessly from them either.
May be the time has come to abandon the ship if you’re one of those people who still own a Symbian smartphone.
