PTA to Block 2.8 Million Illegal Smart Phones

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started the process of blocking the illegal smart phones, which are about 3 million. PTA to Block 2.8 Million Illegal Smart Phones.

According to the records of PTA, there are about 2.8 million smuggled or non custom paid smart phones in the country. It is reported that these smart phones will be blocked in different phases and this process has already started on 30th April. It is also stated clearly that the smart phones on the block list are such smart phones, which were not registered with Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) despite of the giving of many extensions in the deadlines.

In this list, the handsets are added which were smuggled into the country after second deadline, announced by the PTA, which was 5th January 2019 and these smart phones were blocked in case of non-compliance.

What is DIRBS

DIRBS stands for Device Identification Registration and Blocking System, which PTA launched recently and this system will help to block all smuggled and unregistered smart phones and feature phones in the country.

How to Get Unblocked Your Phone

When the non-compliant handset is blocked, it cannot be used in the country until it is get registered with DIRBS. As and when your smart phone is blocked, you will have to pay requisite taxes to get it unblocked.

  • Go to this website: http://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/
  • Click on the ‘DRS’ tab on the top right corner.
  • Sign up with your original name, email ID and CNIC.
  • Enter Handset model & and pre-calculated tax/duty will appear on the screen.
  • Pay the tax and get your phone unblocked.
