Qualcomm Unveils High Performing Snapdragon 660 & 630

Qualcomm is the biggest smart phone chipmakers in the world and it has announced new midrange processors. The Qualcomm categorizes the chipsets in 4 big series. The 8xx series are reserved for high end or flagship smart phone and 6xx series are aimed at mid range and high end smart phones. 4xx for low end and 2xx for the entry level smart phones.

CPU and GPU Improvements

The smart phones, which are fallen in the mid range category, has the new Snapdragon 630 and 660 promise the wonderful upgrades, which is compared to their predecessors. The snapdragon 630 is superseded the 626 and Snapdragon 660 follows up on 653. There are some improvements, which are very marginal and 660 improves the 653’s CPU by 20% and GPU by 30%.

The snapdragon 630 is 10% better than 625 in terms of CPU performance and 30% better in GPU performance. This is not called the big difference in real world performance but it can be better FPS count for some of the games.

Improved Camera Performance

The Snapdragon 630 and 660 are fabricated on 14 nm process and support 4K video playback. They use Spectra ISP camera, which is released with Snapdragon 820 and promised with improved camera performance and picture quality. The Snapdragon 660 will see better visual and audio processing with Hexagon 680 DSP.

There are two chips features of the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem which is coupled with RF transceiver resulted in the 600 Mbps download speed and Snapdragon 660 will come with 2 x 2 MU-MIMO 802.11 ac Wi-Fi. The Qualcomm says that the upgrades will help the phones to communicate through the brick or concrete walls.

Quick Charge 4.0 and Neural Processing Engine

The proprietary Quick Charge 4.0 of the company will be made available on the chips and it will allow you to charge the phone up to 50% in 15 minutes. It has the Bluetooth 5 support and it is confirmed in addition to Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK and the developers can add the neural networks and machine learning with the engine.

The chips support the same chip slots as the predecessors, and smart phone makers will find it easy to upgrade their newer phone models. It is expected to see enough new mid rangers with chipsets in the upcoming months.
