Recently, Samsung has introduced superior phones with metal and glass built. Previously, this quality was just restricted to flagships but now mid range devices are also getting same equipment as that of high end phones.

Samsung Galaxy J5 prime is the latest Samsung device and we will review it in this post. It’s quite similar to Galaxy J7 Prime.

Design & Build Quality

Like J7 Prime, the J5 Prime also has metal build. Due to smaller size, there is no danger of bending of phone. There is a 5” display at front with protection of gorilla glass available with smooth curve. You will also get here a 5 MP front facing camera, an earpiece and LED notification light. At the bottom, you will get fingerprint scanner, home button and recent apps key.

You will get 13 MP camera with single LED flash at back along with regulatory information and branding of Samsung and Duos.

Due to screen size of 5”, you can grip the phone easily but it creates some typing issue. But no doubt, it has a great build quality which is challenging for its competitors.

Display

The display of J5 Prime is 5” IPS LCD with 294ppi. The HD screen on the device is a bit strange as now most of the smartphones are coming with FHD screens but it is in fact quite sufficient on the 5” screen of J5 Prime to get a good display.

The colors have good contrast and its outdoor visibility and brightness is as good as J7 prime. Its ‘outdoor mode’ made the brightness better.

Performance

The performance of J7 Prime is quite different from J5 prime. The J5 Prime has quad core chip with 2 GB of RAM. The practical performance proved very brilliant as compared to J7 prime as it has just 1 GB RAM. You would have 400 RAM free with opening of basic apps due to Touchwiz.

You will face problems in playing games as it will take time to load games and its 3D performance is just original. You can expect the J5 Prime to go for whole day but not more than that.

Camera

But despite lower price, its performance is not much lower than the J7 prime. The camera of the device is similar to J7 in every aspect due t which you can expect same quality of pictures with this device.

The pictures are brilliant at day time due to 4:3 image and resolution of 4128 x 3096 but it suffers in night time like camera of J7 Prime. As far as front camera is concerned, it is 5 MP instead of 7 MP of J7 Prime.

As compared to J7, the pictures of J5 are less sharp. You can also record full HD videos with these cameras.

Battery Life

On J5 prime, the battery is on a lower side as there is just 2400 mAh battery despite its thickness while its previous model had 3100 mAh battery. The battery life is also less as the phone doesn’t last a day with medium use including some 4G usage.

Conclusion

We can say that Galaxy J5 prime is a good performer according to price. It has decent specs and nicely built but battery needs to be improved. But J7 Prime is a better choice if you can afford it due to extra battery, extra RAM and extra screen resolution and size. Price of the J5 Prime is Rs. 26,000 and it is available in black and gold colors.
