The Ordnance Survey has produced the new data rich maps, which are used for next generation smart phones to avoid signal drop outs. They have prepared the detailed 3D models feature buildings, hills, trees, proposed constructions and weather cycles, which can interfere with 5G signals. The researchers are testing the towers in different locations and they are watching how well they may perform.

The next generation 5G networks help the consumers to have faster connection and they will get increase bandwidth for different activities including video streaming. The higher frequency signals can have shorter range than the 3G and 4G signals. The planning tool will be used for mapping data of Ordnance Survey and high resolution aerial images so that they can produce the 3D models and weather data will be provided by Met office. The use of 5G means that location of cell towers is sensitive and it is important to understand completely the topography of an area.

Ordnance Survey said that the maps were detailed and they are included with vegetation cycles so that they can determine that the tree can affect 5G network coverage in different seasons. It is said that it is very useful tool for the companies, in deploying the 5G networks but they have to spend a lot of amount to install lot of cell sites.
