The federal cabinet decided to impose ban on the smuggling of the smart phones in the country from 31 December 2018. When the deadline will be passed, such phones will be blocked.

Federal Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhary has announced the decision for the meeting of the federal cabinet. He said that PTI government wants to promote the local mobile phone industry and the government has made up the mind to block all of the smuggled phones in the country.

He explained that the smuggled phones will not be used in Pakistan after 31 December and such phones can work in the country before December 31 but not beyond this deadline.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will block smuggled phones after 31 December. The Minister of Information said the smart phones having the value of Rs.2.5 billion are smuggled into the country every year. The cabinet has approved the appointment of Arif Usmani as president of National Bank of Pakistan. The cabinet also accorded the approval of the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee of cabinet. The federal cabinet also accorded the approval to open the Kartarpur border corridor in order to give the facility to sikh pilgrims, who want to visit their holiest sites located at the bank of river Ravi. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan will inaugurate opening of border crossing and he also added that special visas will be issued to Indian journalists to attend the event.

Information Minister said the cabinet has strongly condemned the attack on the Chinese consulate located in Karachi. The foreign minister contacted with the Chinese officials and briefed them about the details of the attack.
