Changes have been made in the navigation bar of Facebook app and the ‘Trending Topics’ section will now be seen as “Trending News”. This new design is now available in the US for the Android and iPhone users and users in other countries will also get this update soon.

Prior to that, the ‘Trending Topics’ section was without any headline or pictures, and instead there was just a keyword like “Hillary Clinton”.

But the situation has changed with “Trending News” which shows list of news stories with headline, image and major reporting media outlet along with the presence of many available sources.

According to Facebook, it doesn’t control the stories and they appear in the top ranked according to their status as the trending article on the Facebook or the trend of publisher and also to the links it receive in other articles.

The changes came as the social media giant came under severe criticism when it was blamed for liberal bias in its news section in an article published in a famous technology website. After this, the company took several weeks to redesign its news section which also include changing its editorial team. Now they are using algorithms instead of manual work to choose appearance of public stories. Facebook is also trying to get rid of fake news on its site.
