In this part of the world, it is quite common to replace original chargers when they stop working with their fake copies but now a report tells us that these chargers are harmful for the device.

In the UK, the Chartered Trading Standards Institutes (CTSI) conducted a comprehensive test that included 400 fake iPhone chargers and it later proved that almost all of them were dangerous as a basic security test was passed by just 3 of these chargers. The report concluded that in case of a power surge, these chargers will not only bring an end to your device but they can also caught fire.

The company didn’t tell about the three chargers that passed this test but these chargers were taken from 8 countries which show that Chinese copies were not the only one that you would blame. Most of them had either fake plugs or careless insulation.

Apple has already warned about the potential dangers of these fake chargers commonly found in the market as it said that 90% of the claimed certified chargers on Amazon are fake. This report confirms this warning by Apple and suggests the users to buy original charger of the device.

This study also conducted a test on 3,000 used chargers as many among us use these second hand chargers. The results proved that 15% among them also failed the basic security test.

You can avoid this situation by purchasing only MFi (made for iPhone/iPad/iPod) logo available in official accessories. Apple has also provided complete list of these original chargers.
