Facebook is working hard on messaging apps that automatically delete messages after a certain amount of time.

After introducing self-deleting media and text messages in Messenger and Instagram, a similar feature is now being introduced in the WhatsApp. The Android beta version of WhatsApp has added a new feature called View Once, which removes photos and videos from the feed once viewed.

According to WABetaInfo, a site that tracks WhatsApp updates, this new feature in the beta version has a timer-like button.

This new feature is different from the disappearing feature introduced in the WhatsApp last year in which messages are deleted from the feed within 7 days. Photos and videos sent in this new feature can be viewed or used once and disappear as soon as you leave the app. Users also receive notifications once they view those media files.

According to the report, even after disabling the red receipt, on viewing the one more message, other people will get notification that you have seen the message but you will not know when someone else opened the message you sent. It is also possible to take screenshots of these messages without anyone knowing. And yes, once done, this message can be forwarded and this feature will work even if the other person does not have access to the feature. This feature will be introduced in iOS devices shortly.
