The ‘KiloCore’ is the name given to a 1000 core processor which is first of its kind made by a team of researchers from the ‘University of California’. This team was led by professor of electrical and computer engineering Bevan Bass who told that it is not only the highest clock-rate processor ever designed in a university but it is also the world’s first processor with 1000 chips, according to their information.

According to an analysis by the team, none of the processor could ever reach over 300 cores despite several efforts to make processors with lots of cores. Very few of them could reach the consumer market as they were mostly prepared for research purposes.

Features of the KiloCore

The processor claims that this most energy efficient processor only consumes 0.7 watts of power while it was made by using the 32nm CMOS technology of IBM.

The processor divides each application in to smaller applications and this task handling by the processor is different, flexible and more efficient from normal processors. As compared to a regular laptop processor, it is 100 times more efficient to execute its instructions.

Possible Use in the Future

Most of the modern processors are made by using the 14 nm technology while the KiloCore is made with older 32 nm process due to which its mass production recent times is not possible.

But mobile devices are more suited for this processor as it consumes less power and can run multiple applications at a time which are important for mobile technology. Therefore, we can expect them to be use in near future for enduring mobile gadgets.
