The world’s first solar road with 1 km length has been opened in the French area of ‘Normandy’. “Watway” is the name given to this solar road where 2,000 cars are expected to cross every day. On this road, total 2800 solar panels are fixed. According to estimation, the energy generated from this road will be 767 kilowatt/h which is enough to run street lights on this road and its nearby areas. This experimental road will remain open for two years. Normally, solar panels can’t bear much weight as they are very sensitive but solar panels for this project are especially designed due to which cars and even buses can run over them. Before this road, the strongest solar panels were built in Netherlands that were able to endure bicyclists but more weight than that results in their smash.
