Federal Minister for Information Technology said that PayPal is not coming to Pakistan. The government is in touch with PayPal and it wants to get the alternative in Pakistan. The federal minister said that minister briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication. Rubina Khalid chaired the committee meeting. The IT secretary said that there were the internal issues of PayPal behind the refusal of the company to Pakistan. He said that security and anti money laundering related laws have been tightened and there is no issue on the part of Pakistan. As the company does not have legal backing so it is not coming to Pakistan. The senator Muhammad Ateeq Sheikh said that PayPal is operating worldwide and a Pakistani director is working in the company and he wants to bring it in Pakistan. Due to fear of money laundering in the system in Pakistan, the company has refused to come to Pakistan. He said that government should provide the sovereign guarantee to PayPal and ask them to come through the Public Private Partnership to cut short the apprehensions. The committee said that due to lack of online money transfer system, the country is losing the huge foreign exchange reserves.
