Pakistan gov increase mobile rate

The prices of the phones will increase as the federal government has added a new levy up to 5000 on importing phones.

The price of the levy will depend upon the import value of the phone after duties and taxes are added to the total amount.

REDUCTION OF REGULATORY DUTY ON CKD/SKD PHONE KITS

According to the financial bill, a levy of regulatory duty @ rs 175 set on completely knocked down semi knocked down kits of mobiles has been proposed. Firstly the RD on completely knocked down and semi knocked down was 200 which has been reduced to 175 now reflecting a benefit of 25 per set.

WHAT IS GOING TO BE THE IMPACT OF NEW LEVY

Smart Phones

According to the experts the new levy will discourage digitalization and will encourage smuggling of smart phones. This step is been taken to control growing imports and generate more revenue.

According to the industrialist this will hurt the information technology badly and at the same time it will encourage smuggling of phones as the incentive for illicit trade will increased with levy.

MOBILE PHONE IMPORTS CONTINUE TO GROW

Mobile phone import percent in the first 9 months of 2017-18 was 14.99 as they stood at $603.075 million which is compared to $524.442 million during the same months of 2016-17.

The imports of mobile in March 2018 stood at $77.042 million and it has increased as if it is compared to the $65.062 million imports in March 2017, and has also increased by 10.41 percent as it is compared to $69.779 million in February 2018.
