Pakistani mobile phone importers have demanded from the Federal Govt. to reconsider their decision of increasing taxes on several mobile phones.

In a press advertisement, it is clearly mentioned that several taxes have already been imposed on mobile industry while these new taxes were imposed without giving importance to the requirement of the industry.

In the budget 2016-17, Federal Govt. has increased the taxes on mobile phones of various brands with different specs from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 and from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1500.

These taxes will be responsible for higher prices of high end phones, according to mobile phone vendors.

According to Karachi Electronics Dealers Association Idrees Memon, Around Rs. 8000 are the current taxes on high-end phones and now the mobiles will become expensive by Rs. 11000 with these new taxes. He said it will especially happen for phones like iPhones.

According to mobile phone makers, the industry will destroy after these new taxes while the importers of mobile phones have the view that these taxes will not help anyone except smugglers who use illegal means to avoid taxes.

There is no doubt that these new taxes will effect negatively on cellular companies, mobile phone makers, consumers and advertisers alike.
