Recovering a Lost Phone

The best thing is to recover your phone if it is possible. You should immediately call your phone from another one and check if the phone is ringing or not?

Does the phone ring? If it happens, this it means that either your phone has lost somewhere or the person who took your phone is a stupid one who let it ring. It is easy to track the phone due to which it is immediately turned off by the thief. But you can recover your phone easily if it is ringing.

Tracking your Phone

  • Android: You can locate your Android device by using Android Device Manager. After signing in to Google Account, simply write ‘Find my phone’ and it will start tracking your phone. On another Android phone, you can download the Android Device Manager app from play store and locate it by logging in to your own account. But it will only work if your phone is powered on and connected to the internet.

iPhone:

Find My iPhone” is the tracking feature of Apple. To enable it, go to settings, enter iCLoud and click ‘Find my iPhone’. Location services of Apple should be enabled inorder to find your phone.

1. Open ‘Find My iPhone’ by either logging in to iCloud or logging in to your account on some other iPhone/iPad.

2. The next step is to clip on “All Devices”. In case of online, there will be green dot while offline device will give grey dot. The time period of device online last time will also be shown.

3. The approximate location of the device will be given while it will show last known location if the device is offline. You can get an email after device becomes online by selecting “Notify me when found”.

If the phone has been turned off, broken or out of battery then it will not ring. In this case, the only option left is to erase the data of your device in order to protect it from being getting in someone else’s hand.

First thing is to block your SIM and then follow these steps to erase data from your device.

Erasing your device

  • Android: ‘Android Device Manager’ can be used to ring, lock or change the password of your device. But these acts can be performed when your device is connected to the internet. You also have to grant access to Android Device Manager to perform factory data reset.
  • iPhone: Also through “Find My iPhone” app, you can ing or erase data of your device. The ‘Activation Lock’ feature of iPhone enables automatically after you enable ‘Find My iPhone’. This feature prevents others to reactivate and erase your device or disable ‘Finf My iPhone’ without your Apple ID and password.
