The recent study has revealed that the smart phones can track your location even the GPS of your mobile phone is turned off. There are the sensors in the smart phone, which can help the person to find your location. GPS (Global Positioning System) is the satellite based navigation system and it can be used to track the location of the device. The navigation app can be used o the mobile phone, which will help you to find the shops, restaurants or it can suggest the better ads and the research results, on the basis of your location.

About the Research

The team of researchers of Northeastern University in Boston, US has found the way to track the people with the use of the smart phones even the GPS of their handset turned off. The tests on the handset were carried out in Boston, Massachusetts, Waltham and London.

The Android phones were used and the researchers say that hack applies to iPhones because they have similar set of components.

Any App Can Be Used

The researchers used the simple app like ‘Flashlight’ to locate the test and it shows that an app is nothing to do with tracking or location services, which can be used to trace someone.

How Can Phones Track Us without GPS?

The smart phones have various other sensors to collect the location data. These sensors are added with magnetometer, which works as compass, the accelerometer to tell you how fast you are moving and the gyroscope to tell the orientation of the device.
