Mate 7 was released last year which is the predecessor of Mate 8 while many good qualities of Mate 7 are present in Mate 8 also. It has the same 6” screen and dimensions but the screen-to-body ratio is better. A better Gorilla Glass 4 protection is also present in the 6” IPS-NEO LCD panel for the latest device.

Like any high-end flagship phablet, M8 looks and feels first class. With slope edges, the frame of Mate 8 is completely metallic. Above and below the display panel, it has a nice and simple texture while the device has very few bezels at the front.

Performance & Battery

A powerful octa-core processor with HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset along with 4 GB RAM is present in Huawei M8 through which you can easily change applications. Quad core Mali-T880 is the GPU in the device that will enable you to play games without any problem.

After using AnTuTu benchmarks on the device, the battery timing of the device exceeded much. With heavy usage, the phone lasts for 35 hours (around 1.5 days) due to 4000 mAh Li-Po battery. You will not require charging battery for 2 days (50 hours) with normal use of the device. This is superb as compared to other phones which could not last for one day under heavy usage.

User Interface

The latest Android version Marshmallow and Huawei’s Emotion UI 4.0 is present in the Mate 8 while 4th iteration of EMUI is quite similar to other devices of Huawei. The lockscreen is also similar to previous devices and you will see a new lockscreen wallpaper every time you turn the device on. You can also choose single wallpaper for the device. The drawer of lockscreen has few quick launch shortcuts and it can be pulled from the bottom.

The summary of Huawei Mate 8 review is provided below:

  • The design is not up to the mark but build quality is best.
  • As compared to other LCD panels, the 6” IPS-NEO LCD is better but it is not like an AMOLED display.
  • The IPS-NEO LCD display sunlight visibility is average without chance to improve.
  • The mali-T880 GPU is of low standard but performance of HiSilicon Kirin 950 CPU is exceptionally well.
  • For quick application change, the 4 GB RAM of Mate 8 is enough.
  • Battery timing is excellent which can withstand a day with heavy usage.
  • EMUI v4.0 allows more customization then before after improvement.
  • On the Mate 8, the fingerprint recognition is extremely fast and quite precise.
  • Main camera is not one of the best. The images are rather dull with lack of detail.

We can say that complete expectations with Mate 8 could not be proved true. Despite getting most of the things right, Huawei still needs to get rid of few shortcomings. Its high price is quite similar to Galaxy Note 5 but it lacks few important features like multi-window functionality and S-Pen. The huawei Mate 8 is best for you want a multimedia smartphone due to its microSD expansion slot, large display and superb battery timing. But you can see a better productive handset in the market if you want to get a device with productivity.
